Emeritus Archbishop Barry James Hickey celebrated Mass for the Feast of Our Lady of Assumption and the Official Blessing & Opening of the PRAYER GARDEN at St Francis of Assisi Parish, Maida Vale, on Thursday 15th August 2013.

Students from Matthew Gibney Catholic Primary School and Parishioners filled the Church for the Mass. After Mass the children formed a Guard of Honour for Emeritus Archbishop Hickey as he did the Ribbon Cutting at the PRAYER GARDEN entrance. The PRAYER GARDEN consists of 3 components:

IN MEMORY OF THE UNBORN - In Memory Of All Children Who Have Died Unborn, Known Only To God. Often children who have died before birth have no grave or headstone, and sometimes not even a name

GROTTO of St Francis of Assisi Parish - Built by Tom Hogg, a non-Catholic neighbour frEmeritus Archbishop Hickeyom across the church. Together with Parishioner Len Harrison they built the GROTTO & IN MEMORY OF THE UNBORN in about six weeks.

The Rosary Path
The ROSARY PATH - With brick tiles forming decades of beads, our Rosary Path walkway takes the shape of a rosary, complete with a centrepiece and cross. This was built entirely by our Parishioner Len Harrison

The Blessing of MEMORY OF THE UNBORN Wall. Blessing of the GROTTO & ROSARY PATH by Emeritus Archbishop Hickey MORNING TEA RECEPTION with Special GROTTO CAKE made by Judy Bell and her sister Mary:

Grotto CakeFr. Elver Delicano, Parish Priest St Francis of Assisi, Maida Vale, commented: “I’m so excited with this project, especially since the whole PRAYER GARDEN was conceived and built by our Parishioners. The entire Fund Raising over the last few months has been worth it. Our Parishioners can now enjoy and be proud of their GROTTO and the two new and unique features of IN MEMORY OF THE UNBORN WALL and the ROSARY PATH. We now look forward to our next Project scheduled for completion this coming October 2014 ... the GARDEN OF REMEMBRANCE.”
